ROSECAN Project

Romania-Serbia Joint Initiative against Cancer in Cross-Border Region: Improved Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Tumors” – ROSECAN

The Center for Genic and Cellular Therapy in Cancer Treatment – OncoGen is currently implementing the strategic project “Romania-Serbia Joint Initiative against Cancer in Cross-Border Region: Improved Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Tumors – ROSECAN”, financed through Interreg-IPA CBC Romania – Serbia program.

The objective of the ROSECAN project is to develop oncology in the region through a modern and efficient infrastructure with the aim of ensuring access to high-quality services for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

The project coordinator is Požarevac General Hospital, and the partners are the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, SCJUPBT – OncoGen and County Emergency Hospital Reșița.

The project will run for a period of 42 months with a budget of € 12 million, of which over € 3 million is allocated to the OncoGen Center, and the institution’s contribution is 2% of the funding.

The OncoGen Center has purchased € 2.3 million medical and IT equipment through the project and will, in the near future, develop a specialized software platform available to doctors in Serbia and Romania that will allow rapid exchange of information between them for establishing the diagnosis and treatment for oncological patients.

At OncoGen, next-generation sequencing (NGS) will be employed for screening, prevention and therapeutic orientation in cancer.

A main objective is to elaborate a strategy based on molecular diagnostic for patients with cancer, which will help the oncologists to provide an improved and more effective therapeutic decision for patients with solid tumors. Finally, the patients will benefit from precision molecular diagnostic and access to on-going clinical trials.
