About us

The first research centre in Romania and Eastern Europe equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for basic and applied research in gene therapies. With a total area of 3000 m², the centre has basic and applied research facilities, including 15 compartments and laboratories equipped with high-performance equipment.

The construction and endowment of the Center for Gene and Cellular Therapies in Cancer Treatment – OncoGen took place in the period 2010 – 2015, based on financing through the Sectoral Operational Program "Creșterea Competitivității Economice”, Priority Axis 2: Competitiveness through research, economic development and innovation, Operation 2.2.1. The project was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Virgil Păunescu. The total value of the project was 54,389,610 RON, of which eligible costs 44,000,000 lei, respectively 38,909,200 lei from the European Regional Development Fund and 5,090,800 lei from the national budget. The center has been provided with all facilities and technological streams for cutting-edge research, having basic and applied research facilities for translational medicine, including a GMP facility (with 2 white rooms and a BSL2 room), a cell and tissue bank and a biobase .
